Have you been looking in the mirror and noticing a few of those extra pounds we all seemed to gain last year? All of those days locked up at home and being so close to the kitchen did not help.

We had all this extra time to exercise. Did we? We had time to research and eat healthier. Did we? The uncertainty of the pandemic and the worry that came with losing jobs and losing money didn't help.

Now that everything is getting back to normal we need to do something. How about having some fun? If we find a fun activity we enjoy it is easier to keep at it. It doesn't even seem like work.

So if you are looking for a fun activity here is one that I am considering. Playing volleyball. How much fun was that growing up? I mean I never really played it more than in gym class. We had fun. It didn't seem like it was exercise. Boy, though, was it.

My daughter ended up playing Club Volleyball and so I saw how it was fun and work. It was worth it. I feel this is a win win situation. I can get a team together. Join a league and lose some weight all in one evening a week. The games will be held at Ellwood Park and Memorial Park starting at 6:30pm nightly.

So Amarillo Parks and Recreations is now taking team registrations for their upcoming volleyball season. It will run from July 12th until August 27th. Getting out in the sunshine is good for your spirits. Getting out to run around on the volleyball court is good for your heart and you waistline. All we have to do is get a team together NOW.

Say You're From Amarillo Without Saying You're From Amarillo

Amarillo is a pretty quirky place. We've got the Big Texan, the weird signs, and (obviously) the famed Cadillac Ranch. But more than that, there's a distinct culture of close-knit community, eccentrics, a thriving arts scene, and much more.

The point is, living in Amarillo is a unique experience. Because of that, it's really pretty easy to tell who's a native or a long-time resident. And I can prove it.

Here's a couple of ways you can say you're from Amarillo.....without saying you're from Amarillo.
