[GALLERY] Looking for Kids’ Swim Lessons? This Amarillo Spot Delivers
One of the most important things to me when I had a child here in Amarillo was to make sure they learned how to swim. My daughter took lessons growing up through the City of Amarillo at Southeast Swimming Pool and also the Amarillo Town Club. Over twenty years ago.
You can still sign up at Amarillo Town Club, but apparently, but it now requires a membership. They still do them through the city, but not at the different city pools. The lessons are all through the Warford Activity Center.

Traditional Swim Lesson Options in Amarillo
When we were looking at all of the options in Amarillo for my granddaughter, I kept hearing about Swim Lessons by Waterscape. This was a totally new option to me. So I searched for them in some local groups. Searched for their location on Google Maps. They are at 14785 MacArthur. When I checked out the image of the location, all I saw was a house. So I had questions.
Discovering Waterscape Swim Lessons
The glowing reviews convinced us to give it a try. It's at a house, but it is a legitimate business. We got there for the first lesson, and when you get to the house, they have orange cones in the driveway so people don't approach the house.
There is a long driveway to the right that leads behind the house. It leads you to Swim Lessons by Waterscape. It's an open building that I am sure is closed up during the winter months. They do swim lessons year-round.
When you sign up, you pick a day and time that works for your schedule. There are plenty of times open on the calendar. You also get to pick your instructor. We went with Renee. We figured my granddaughter would feel more at ease with a female instructor.
Making Swimming Fun for Nervous Kids
Laila loves the water, but she was feeling a little nervous. We started her with the thought of this being mermaid school. That got her excited. Renee continued with the mermaid approach. She had animal toys to coax Laila into the water.
Lessons last just 30 minutes, but they’re packed with value. They had her playing in the water, blowing bubbles in the water, and kicking and swimming using a pool noodle. They do an evaluation to see how your child is in the water.
You can sign up based on your schedule and goals. You sign up and pay once a month, like a gym membership, and keep going until you feel you have accomplished what you want. It's a great concept.
More Than Just Lessons: Snacks, Gear, and Smiles
As a heads up, they have a snack area where they sell snacks with a QR code. After lessons, they are hungry. There is also a cash register, but if someone is not there, the snacks are on the honor code.
They also have a really cool area to buy swimming supplies. They have swimsuits, caps, cover-ups, goggles, and more. We left with some snacks, a new unicorn bathing suit for Laila, and a book about Daniel Tiger learning to swim. It was a success, and Laila is already looking forward to her second mermaid school lesson this next week.
