It's that most wonderful time of the year. We give and we get for the holiday season. Sometimes the item works out for you and sometimes it doesn't. When it is not what you like or the size is wrong the gift sometimes comes with an exchange or return in mind.

It happens. Of course, if you have a receipt that makes everything easier. A receipt will make it so simple for a return or an exchange. If you don't then there is a little more to it. If you are pretty sly and can find out where it came from that is the next step.

If the gift came from Walmart then you have some options. The easiest is to trek to customer service at your closest Walmart. Make sure you stop at the front door and have them mark it for a return. Without that process, you might get turned away at customer service. So save that step and make sure you are ready with a return sticker on it.

So What is the Policy for Returns at Walmart?

They want you to be happy with your product. If they can trace the purchase by original purchase with a credit or debit card they will try. If it was a gift that is a little harder. So they do have a way to return stuff without a receipt. Walmart does like to make things simple.

What Can You Do if There is No Receipt?

According to their website:

To return or exchange items without a receipt, the customer must present a valid government-issued photo ID. Information from the customer ID is stored in a secure database that Walmart uses to authorize returns.

If the refund verification process accepts the return, the following options are available:

  • Merchandise exchange
  • Cash refund if value is less than $10
  • Gift Card refund if value is equal to or greater than $10

Refunds issued for lost items, wrong/incorrect item returned, or suspected fraudulent activity are subject to recharge if Walmart or the Seller can verify delivery or frequent abuse.

Make sure you have your driver's license with you to make a return without a receipt. They do keep track of your returns without a receipt. I mean they do have to keep track of things like that.

You hope that everything you receive at Christmas is a smashing success. Sometimes that is just not possible. So it's nice to know that Walmart has a pretty simple policy to make returns. Just don't abuse it.
