Where Texas Ranks In States With Biggest Unemployment Increase
A new study recently released by WalletHub took a look at the numbers when it comes to states with the biggest unemployment increase. For Texas, there's a small silver lining when it comes to where we rank.
For their study, WalletHub looked at the unemployment numbers for the entire month of April. According to what they found, Texas had 1.6 million people unemployed.
That comes out to be a 304% increase over April of 2019. It's a shocking number to see.
However, when it comes to where we rank in the U.S., we're actually doing better here than half of the other states and the District of Columbia. We rank 28 overall nationally.
Nevada, unfortunately, came in at the top of the list. Nevada has seen a 608% increase for the same time period. We also are doing much better than Oklahoma, which ranked at 12 with a 395.7% increase from April 2019 to April 2020.
With all of the news coming out about businesses being able to finally reopen, or increase their capacity, I'm hopeful those numbers will be coming down in the Lone Star State.
For many of us, our safety and the safety of our families comes first; as it should. Still, it's heartbreaking to see what is happening.
My wife and I know people who are out of work. Some are lucky enough to still have their job when guidelines allow for them to go back. For others, the future is bleak as they try to find work while Covid-19 is still on everyone's mind.
I'm looking forward to the first time we get through a day without Covid-19 in the headlines and can gather with our friends and neighbors without the pandemic looming over us.
