One of the best things about heading out of town and leaving Amarillo behind is seeing the things that other places have. You get to experience their foods, their stores, and some of their fun activities. Then sometimes you see something and you just don't know what to think.

That happened on a recent trip to Phoenix for Thanksgiving. We went to a few of their local restaurants. We took my granddaughter to the zoo and even Rainforest Cafe. Everywhere we went I noticed these weird-looking cars.

I had to ask what was up with them. They were not regular cars at all. You definitely notice them driving down the streets of Phoenix. I was told that they were driverless cars. Think about that for a minute. Is that a good idea? Maybe, maybe not.

It is called Waymo. They are only in four U.S. cities right now; Austin, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Phoenix. Just the idea of getting in a car and trusting it to drive you around. Is this a good idea or a bad one?

Waymo is like Uber. You open an app. You schedule a ride. When the car arrives you use your app to unlock the door and then get inside. It seems pretty cool. I saw them being used a lot around Phoenix. I saw them at the Phoenix Zoo. There was a lot I saw driving on the main street by my mom's house. You can't miss them.

Will Amarillo get a feature like this? Would you use it? I think I would. Just think of it this way, there is no awkward conversation. I don't have to worry whether the driver is a serial killer. I don't have to tip them. I'm sure they find a way to work a tip in any way.

I think I would try it. I trust a computer, I guess. I don't have to be social. Sometimes after leaving work, I don't want to talk. So this is perfect for me.

Would You Trust Riding in a Driverless Car?

Is this a good idea or not? There didn't seem to be any problems in Phoenix. None that I saw. I do wonder how it will handle Amarillo orange code haven. Our construction can be something else. It can handle Los Angeles and those other big cities so I think we will be fine.
