WTAMU Police Officer Dies After Reaction To Cat Bite Treatment
West Texas A&M and specifically the police department are mourning the loss of one of their officers.
Two weeks ago Corporal Monty Platt responded to an on campus call about a feral cat. Although Cpl. Platt was wearing protective gloves the cat managed to bite through. Concerned about the bite he sought medical assistance.
The doctor gave him some medication to fight the infection. Unfortunately, the medicine caused a serious and negative physical reaction. Cpl. Platt died at a Lubbock hospital on Tuesday night.
He was a 16-year veteran of the University Police Department and by all accounts a valued member of their team. He leaves behind a wife and 11-year-old son.
Services will be Friday at 10 am at St. Ann's in Canyon followed by a memorial at Dreamland Cemetery. Cpl. Platt will be given an officer's funeral.
Our thoughts are with the friends and family at this time.
