Amarillo Brace Yourself For Travel Issues Starting Monday
I can't help but sit here and think about what a huge day Monday is going to be for Amarillo. We have been counting down and getting excited for it since we first heard about Buc-ee's moving into Amarillo.
Monday is the Grand Opening and the official first day of Buc-ee's being in Amarillo. The doors open at 6 am. There are going to be many people camping out just to be the first through the door. There will be others who wait a month or so for the excitement to die down before they make their first trip.
If you have traveled past and even stopped at a Buc-ee's location anywhere you probably noticed something. It doesn't matter because Buc-ee's seems to always be busy. Which is good news for Amarillo.
It's good news for everyone except a certain group of people on any given day. I addressed this earlier HERE thinking and really knowing this would be an issue. A little over a year ago I wondered what kind of headache this location was going to cause for Amarillo travelers, the ones who fly in and out of Rick Husband International Airport. What issues will this cause for those who work out at the airport?
Apparently my concerns were valid as Rick Husband International Airport addressed the problem ahead of Monday's Grand Opening:
They are offering alternate route options to get to the airport and avoiding all of the Buc-ee's hype. Long gone may be the days of just traveling I40 and exiting Airport Boulevard to get to the airport.
I know they suggested taking the alternate routes on Monday or around the opening day because traffic may be an issue. I really think these alternate routes may need to be a part of our trips to the airport from now on. I mean unless you are needing to make a pitstop for snacks ahead of the trip.
I really don't think traffic is ever going to be a non-issue once Buc-ee's is open. Regardless of how you plan your trips to Rick Husband International Airport, we are OK dealing with the added issues involved. We are just excited to welcome Buc-ee's to our city.
