There are some hurdles you just have to cross when delivering in Amarillo. The one I get the most is a customer that requires you get a PIN from them before you hand them their food.

In a lot of cases, not all, a customer is given a PIN because they have complained too much about not receiving their food. They may have called and tried to get free food one too many times. Again, not always.

Why Some DoorDash Orders Require a PIN in Amarillo

This is when DoorDash says "OK, we will give you a PIN number." At that point we know as a delivery driver that we can't hand them the food until we get that PIN number from them. That ensures that the delivery service knows they have their food.

I recently had a delivery that the customer was confused about having a PIN and they had wanted me to leave the food at BSA Emergency Room at the front desk. I tried calling and messaging with no response. I finally had to get DoorDash Support involved. When I did hear back from customer after delivery she was confused about even having a PIN.

When a Delivery Turns Into a Waiting Game

So my next delivery as soon as I accepted it the customer messaged me and asked that I let her know when I got there. It was for her sister who was at the Tyler Resource Center and she needed to let her know I was there so she could meet me outside.

This delivery also required a PIN and I figured I would get ahead of this one and remind her I would need a PIN before I could give it to her. Right away she gave me attitude. She responded with "I said let me know when you get there and I would give you the PIN."

I wasn't going to argue with her as that was not what she said but I went on picking up her order and one for another customer. When I got to the dropoff location I messaged her to let her know I was in the parking lot.

I got out of my car and headed to the trunk to grab the food when the sister realized I was there with her food. We chatted about the food was from her sister in Houston and how she couldn't just drive up and bring her food. She was nice.

I let her know I couldn't give her the food until I got that PIN from her sister, that was a DoorDash rule. I had already messaged her and was just waiting and having a nice conversation with the sister in Amarillo.

Attitude, No Tip, and the Same Old Story

She came back with a "Since When?" response when I said I couldn't hand off the food. I already knew how this was going to go. I just kindly told her it was a thing as long as I have been delivering food. Finally she gave up the code and I handed off the food.

I then headed to my second delivery on that order with no issues. As I confirmed that drop-off that is when I found out what I already knew was going to happen. The customer with the attitude did not tip me.

This was not a situation that she took away the tip because you can't do that on this service but she never intended to tip. I wasn't surprised. For whatever reason, in my experience, the customers that want a lot or message a lot, tend to not tip. It's just the way that goes sometimes.
