It's been awhile since we heard we would be getting new meters at our homes. These were supposed to make it easier to get accurate readings of our electricity. This is supposed to be a good thing.

We have received several emails letting us know they were on the way. We got stuff in the mail as well. Xcel wanted to make sure we were aware. As the time gets closer to our neighborhood getting them we get more warning.

They want to let us know that they have to have access to our meters. I always keep my backyard gates locked so I had to fix that. We didn't have to be home to get them. They just had to have access. We were warned that we might lose power for just a second or two.

I was out of town when they came by my house. I received a notice on my front door when I got back to let me know they were there. So I had to check out the new meter.

These are supposed to make it easy for the meters to be read without someone having to actually come by your home. They are supposed to make it easier for us to monitor our electricity usage as well.

I have seen a lot of people asking about the ability to opt out of getting them. I am not sure what the issue would be. I mean accurate readings, to me, would be a welcomed opportunity. So what is the issue?

Have you had your installed yet? I am interested to see my next bill. I would like to see if they usage and amount goes up or down. I am welcoming more accurate readings. Since I am the only one living in my home I know my electric usage is not too much.

Heck, I am not home nearly enough anyway. Maybe I will start saving money. I can dare to dream, right?
