Amarillo is not a huge city but it's big enough. One of the things that we offer is public transportation. You see the city buses going up and down our streets. We also see bus stops all over the city.

Some of the bus stops we see are a little questionable. OK, they are really a darn shame. Sometimes you just see a sign. There are no benches. There is no shelter to protect you from the elements.

When we get rain it can be miserable waiting for a city bus. Oh, and when we hit those triple-digit temperatures and that sun is just beating down on you it's a shame.

I found this on my friend, Mark's page:

Why is there not a bench and shelter at each and every bus stop? That seems like something that should have been a given from the beginning. It just doesn't make any sense for our city. Our weather can be crazy and people still have to get places.

Why do we not care about those who use public transportation? Especially with the way that everything has gone up in cost. It can be nearly impossible to afford a car, insurance, and gas for some people. So they need to rely on public transportation.

Do they not deserve to be protected from the weather? That is ridiculous. How did the city decide which locations deserved having a bench? How did they pick which ones got shelter? Because there are some that actually provide that. Just not a lot.

One individual, in particular, quipped that he offered to pay the city one million dollars in free bus shelters if he could have the advertising rights and he was told no. That is infuriating.

The hopes are that with the new city council and mayor that this maybe can become a bigger concern. That this issue can be fixed sooner than later.
