Amarillo Police Investigating Another Homicide
Is it me or has there been an uptick in shootings and homicides lately? Sadly, Tuesday afternoon, Amarillo Police were called to Southeast Park for a welfare check. The park is located off South Osage Street and Southeast 46th Avenue. Police were dispatched at 4:23pm in the afternoon after a caller told dispatchers that was a man slumped over behind the wheel of an orange car. Officers discovered a deceased male with apparent gunshot wounds.
Authorities have identified the man as 30 year old Richard Garza. While his family has been notified, no other information has been released yet. Justice of the Peace Clay Houdashell has ordered an autopsy to be performed. Amarillo Police are looking for anyone that may have seen something or can provide information to help them solve this homicide. You can contact the APD homicide unit at 806-378-9468; or call Amarillo Crime Stoppers at 374-4400 if you wish to remain anonymous.
Southeast Park is a popular spot for residents in the area with a pond for fishing and a dog park. During warmer months, soccer is a very popular spot in the park and the area is usually heavily used.
