The building was demolished back in 2015, but the stories live on.

The apartment building once located at 1601 S Jackson was once the place to be. It was built in 1926 and was originally called the Palo Duro Apartments. And back then, they were real nice.

The building had 36 cozy units. There were nice pictures of tenants that lined the hallways. There was also a full basement--and even a rooftop garden.

But somewhere over the years, things changed for the Palo Duro Apartments, including its name. Somewhere along the way, the name changed to what many of us know it as today: Jackson Square Apartments.

Somewhere along the way, the nice, cozy Palo Duro apartments embarked on a steady decline as Jackson Square. And the downward descent into disrepair and ill repute would not end until its demolition in 2015.

Somewhere amid the spiral of Jackson Square, strange tales and incessant crime began to take hold from within the building's shabby facade.

Jackson Square soon became a refuge for those who lived in the lower realms of society. The poor, the unstable, and the addicted would often find room at Jackson Square. The historical apartment building was now a danger zone. Thefts, assaults, and even murders took place within the brick walls.

One such murder at the apartments was 31-year-old Banquo “Ace” Dewond Logan. Logan was a familiar face at Jackson Square. But unlike most residents, Logan was set to move out. But as he packed up Apartment 31 with a friend of his, things took a tragic turn. A crazy ex was not happy about Logan having a baby with his current girl. So she decided that stabbing him repeatedly in the neck was the way to go.

Murder was not the only thing plaguing these Amarillo apartments. Many residents have experienced paranormal activity as well. There have been several ghost stories over the years.

One memorable story tells of a girl who was innocently playing outside when she heard a voice say "hello." When she turned around she saw a girl her age. Great, a friend to play with.... until she noticed something strange.

This girl had no legs and was levitating in the air. Her nice white dress was covered in blood. What happened to this little girl? We will never know as the girl outside playing fainted with fright.

Each floor seemed to have its own ghostly tale of or rumors of a haunting. Many would see a pregnant lady jumping out of a third-floor window. She would disappear before hitting the ground. She had been seen by more than one resident.

These are the stories that line the walls of the seemingly haunted apartments. Some people believe in spiritual hauntings like this. Some do not. Either way, these stories are hard to explain.
