Each and every job has its pros and of course its cons. It's just the way life goes. You decide in the end if the pros outweigh the cons. For the most part, you hope that they do or else you may decide to do something else.

DoorDash knows that and is trying to do something to keep their drivers a bit happier. They are educating their customers. If you live under a rock you may not know that DoorDash is here to have a driver pick up your food, your groceries, or even a package you need. That driver delivers it to you.

You may have decided to let someone else deliver it because you can't leave your house or work for whatever reason. Maybe you are sick. Maybe the kids are. You may have a car that is broken down. The weather could be crazy. Heck, the traffic could be backed up like crazy and you don't have the time to deal with it. Or you may just be too lazy.

For whatever reason having something delivered to you is a luxury. With all luxuries, there comes a price. That price for the driver is the tip. Having something delivered from DoorDash or the many food delivery apps is different than going to a restaurant. You tip the server for their service throughout the meal. You judge them on their personality, their promptness, and the refills. So you wait until the end of the meal.

A delivery service you really just want your stuff brought to you. You can't or don't want to leave. Most of the time the transaction is contactless. So you don't tip on the whole experience. One way to ensure you get your stuff is to include a tip.

The driver is using their car. They are using their gas. They are the ones dealing with the restaurant and the wait. They are the ones dealing with traffic. I'm looking at you I40 East and you being backed up for miles. So if you don't include a tip your food may sit at the restaurant for a while. DoorDash is finally giving the customer that warning.

If you try to leave no tip DoorDash will now warn you to make sure that is what you want to do. They will let you know that your order might take longer to get to you. Heck, the food may be cold once it gets to you. Being a DoorDash driver I know we see the offer. We can figure out if there is a tip or not. We see how far we have to drive. We can decide whether we want to pick up the delivery or not.

We will not get fired from DoorDash if we decline too many orders. We are independent contractors. We are not employees. They are not our boss. They can't tell us what to do. All they can do is try to make the customer understand if they don't tip the driver might decline and not make the trip.

For those who say they tip cash after the service. That is great. It may still take a while to get your delivery because most drivers won't take the chance. Most no-tip trips are just that. They do not end up with a cash tip at the end. The ones that do end up tipping cash do it as an extra bonus after already tipping on the app.

I have had that happen several times. So just know if the driver doesn't think they will get a tip you may just have to wait. You have been warned. DoorDash is letting you know that too. This new message will be what pops up from now on.

Whether you like it or not this is life. Again you weigh the pros and cons of tipping or leaving your house and picking up your own food.
