It's been a whirlwind of a year. We are basically half-way through it and a lot has happened. We have seen crazy weather. We have seen businesses open and close here.

We found out late last year that the whole face of our city was going to change. We found out that Ginger Nelson was not going to run for re-election as Amarillo's Mayor. We found out that the whole city council was going to change as well.

Then the elections in May happened. We did not get all the answers we were hoping for. We knew that Cole Stanley would step in as mayor. We knew that a couple of the city council seats were filled with Don Tipps and Tom Scherlen.

Two of the seats were still up in the air. There was no clear winner. Nobody received fifty percent of the vote. So here we sat in limbo. So when our city needed and wanted new leaders we were going to have to wait.

That was until this past weekend. There were only two questions when you stepped in the booth for the run-off re-election. We were looking to see who would take Place One and Place Four.

We found out over the weekend. It was a pretty low turnout during the May election. That is very disappointing. The numbers for early voting and election day seemed a bit better for Amarillo. Still disappointing, though.

So now that we have a full city council and a mayor for Amarillo it's time. It is time to do what is good for the city.

The full set of city officials for Amarillo:

Mayor: Cole Stanley

Place One: Josh Craft

Place Two: Don Tipps

Place Three: Tom Scherlen

Place Four: Les Simpson

I hope these set of leaders work together and help Amarillo be the city it should be.
