Keeping up with the restaurants in Amarillo can be a tough job. Sometimes there are changes that happen just way too fast. We have new ones opening all the time. We have them closing too. It is the circle of life around here.

Sometimes we get a warning that a place is going to close down for good. Sometimes it comes as a surprise to everyone, including the employees. Sometimes they are just temporary closings while something is improved or just flat-out replaced.

Over the weekend a long-standing restaurant on Georgia Street just suddenly closed. Now this surprised me because I hadn't really heard anything about it happening until recently.

This is a place that my daughter and I would go to each and every Christmas Eve as our yearly tradition. If they were going to be closed for good that was going to just break our hearts. So I had to drive by and see what was going on. I made a trip to the Denny's on Georgia Street.

There was a sign for the employees. So they knew where they could get their checks. Which is good. They wanted to make sure that their employees were taken care of through whatever was going on.

There was also a sign letting us know they were closed. It didn't have a lot of information.

Regardless of what people say they are closed due to "Emergency Response Inspection" or there was an emergency that closed them. That emergency? With the weekend that we had and the freezing temperatures, it was definitely not the best time for their heater to go out.

So they are closed until they get a new one installed and then an inspection. I mean for a restaurant that is open twenty-four hours a day and seven days a week it is strange to drive by and see Denny's on Georgia closed. Though, that is exactly what is going on now.
