It Is Finally Official. There Will Be No Minor League Baseball This Year.
The announcement was finally made this afternoon, not that it was really all that shocking. While we kept our fingers crossed, I don't think many of us thought we'd actually get to see the Sod Poodles take to the field this year.
The Minor League announced that Major League Baseball will not be supplying affiliated teams with players for this season. So that means not only is there no Minor League ball in Amarillo, but there won't be Minor League ball played anywhere.
I think the blow is softened a bit simply because most of us expected it to come to this. Not only are there the concerns regarding the pandemic, but we're getting late into the season. If we were to start any time soon, what would that season even look like? How long could it possibly be?
It's not all bad news, though. If you're a baseball fan and are itching to hear the crack of a bat, there will be some baseball played in Hodgetown.
Amarillo is hosting two Texas Collegiate League teams, and those games are still going to happen in downtown Amarillo and on the road.
In the press release the point is made that the Sod Poodles will return next year. We will still host the All Star Game next season.
To stay up with the latest information, check out the Sod Poodles website and keep an eye on their social media accounts.
You can also find more info on the Texas Collegiate League games to be played at Hodgetown by going to the Sod Poodles website.
