It’s Not A Rumor: Local Bar Closes Their Doors
It's been a long road for Rumors. It was a little over a year ago when we woke up to the news that the owner, Cindy Jayroe, had been shot and killed by a stray bullet. Through that, they stayed in business.
It was tough but they did it for Cindy. It would be what she wanted. She would want the doors to remain open. Plus I feel it was a great way for the staff and customers to make it through together. It was a senseless thing to have happened. Amarillo has too much violence.
So Rumors kept their doors open. They just tried to move on the best way that they could. All it took was opened doors and cold drinks and plenty of friendly faces to keep the spirits up.
Then the year 2022 didn't start off as they would want with Rumor's being listed in a lawsuit. They stayed open through that too. Now here we are getting ready to wrap up the year when the bad news came out.
From a post on the Rumor's Facebook page:
This is the date (11/11/2004) that Cindy and I opened the doors to Rumors. Thank you everyone for an absolutely wonderful 18 years!! I love my Rumors family and friends and I am so grateful for all the love and support over these years! Due to unforseen circumstances it is no longer feasible for me to remain open for business. I am going to miss it all but I am looking forward to what comes next!!
It's sad to see the doors not staying open through all that has happened. It's been a great ride overall. They will be missed in the community and we can still drive down 10th and have fond memories of having a drink there and remembering Cindy's smiling face.
