A surprise opening in Amarillo yesterday reminded me of a line from one of my favorite movies, Ocean's 13. "When they opened the Flamingo, one day it was closed, the next it was open. End of story. I know, I was there".

Straight from the lips of the wily old veteran Saul, it's exactly how I felt yesterday when I noticed something in Amarillo that apparently had just opened out of nowhere.

The QuikTrip on Bell by I-27 has been buzzing quite a bit lately with cars in the parking lot, and I was getting a sense that they were getting close to opening their doors. However, I drive by it multiple times a day, yet no cars in front of the store.

Yesterday that all changed. As I was headed to the baseball fields with the family, I noticed that all of a sudden there were proper gas prices on the QT signs, and that typically signifies that a gas station is open for business.

Prior to that, it was just a bunch of nines showing up. I looked at the parking lot and sure enough, there were several cars in front of the store. I make a last minute, late maneuver into the parking lot throwing the family to one side of the car.

Look, when I lived in Tulsa, QuikTrip was THE spot, and I fell in love with it. More drink options than I'd ever seen. A full-on coffee bar where you could get close to Starbucks type of drinks. A kitchen that cooked up some seriously good food that you'd never know came from a convenience store.

I am beyond excited this location is open as its a stones throw away from my house. So if you ever want to hang out, I'm probably going to be at the QuikTrip on Bell.
