Ocean Buffet Opening Date Set for Former Route 66 Buffet Location

Amarillo is a city that sees a lot of new businesses open and close. As quickly as they come into town, sometimes they leave. We have seen many new restaurants come and go, and sometimes it breaks your heart. That is what has happened to the location at 2221 S. Soncy.

A Building With a Buffet History

The restaurant was originally a beloved Furr's, then when they closed, Route 66 Family Buffet moved in to take its place, but not even 2 years later, it closed.

We shared with you in June that a new restaurant was moving into the location and that Route 66 Family Buffet was closing on June 30, 2026.

When Does Ocean Buffet Open?

We shared that although Route 66 Family Buffet would be closing, a new buffet was moving in. That buffet is Ocean Buffet. Less than 2 months after Route 66 Family Buffet closed its doors, Ocean Buffet will be opening. They have announced the opening date as Monday, August 24, 2026.

What's on the Menu at Ocean Buffet?

Ocean Buffet will feature Mexican, American, Chinese, and Japanese food, plus seafood, sushi, hibachi, Mongolian grill, and more. Although it won't be what you enjoyed with Route 66 Family Buffet, it will offer a large selection of different cuisines you can sink your teeth into.

The hours are Sunday - Thursday, 11 am - 9:30 pm, Friday and Saturday, 11 am - 10 pm.

Ocean Buffet is also in Washburn and Rockwell, Texas.
