I can't tell you how many times I've seen the name Bobby Mayfield bubble up to the surface amid a sea of Facebook comments.

Over the years, I have learned that Mayfield is a man of consistency. Since 2020, I have seen him on nearly every single mugshot page in the Texas Panhandle. You'll find his comments on each and every mugshot post of the people charged with drunk driving offenses.

Every single one. Without fail.

It's not hard to follow the trail of #babylaikken. A few clicks on the hashtag will take you through a series of public posts that paint a clear picture of grief and loss.

Laikken Frances Mayfield

On July 30, 2020, Bobby Mayfield's heavily pregnant wife, Ronna, was traveling on State Highway 152 east of Dumas when 55-year-old Liborio Almanza crashed into her vehicle head-on. She was transported to Northwest hospital where her unborn child ultimately died while still in utero from injuries sustained in the crash.

DPS officers who arrived at the scene of the crash observed that Almanza appeared to be intoxicated and arrested him on a charge of intoxication assault causing serious bodily injury.

The Mayfields were then left to mourn the baby girl they had named Laikken Frances Mayfield. Meanwhile, Liborio Almanza posted bail and would walk as a free man until his trial date.

Once you learn the story behind #babylaikken, it is easy to see why Bobby Mayfield has remained a consistent presence on the mugshot postings for DWI and intoxicated offenses.

But then, after three long years of grieving and waiting, Bobby and Ronna Mayfield have finally come full circle.

Justice, And Then What?

On April 26, 2023, after a 3 day trial, Liborio Almanza was found guilty of intoxication manslaughter and intoxication assault causing serious bodily injury by a Moore county jury. His punishment was assessed at 8 years TDCJ for the intoxication manslaughter charge and 10 years probation for the intoxication assault charge.

"We are very pleased with the judge and the jury," said Bobby Mayfield. "They did very well"

I can't help but reflect on the satisfying knowledge that Bobby Mayfield and his family finally have some closure and vindication for their littlest life lost. And yet I have one question that remains.

Will Bobby Mayfield remain a consistent presence on the mugshot post of drunk driving charges? Or will he and #babylaikken shift into another phase of Life?

Only time will tell.
