At the end of August, a toy store here in Amarillo had a fire. The crazy part is they really don't know what started it. The thought is that during a storm we had lightning struck. That lightning caused Unique Toys on Hillside to close due to the fire.

The good news from the store is that they do plan on reopening. The timing has been rough as we are inching towards the end of the year. Before you know it Christmas shopping will be here with dreams of all of those toys under the Christmas tree.

So the hope from the shoppers in Amarillo was that they wouldn't be temporarily closed for long. Everyone was rooting for Unique Toys to be open in plenty of time to get our Christmas shopping done there.

It's sad that Amarillo does not have a lot of designated Toy Stores for the families. We miss the days of choosing between Toys R Us, KB Toys, and Unique Toys. It's nice that local won out and now just Unique Toys is around in our area to shop. The fire, though, has put a damper on that for now and possibly the holiday season.

Unique Toys came out recently on their social media to give us the bad news:

Unique Toys Family,
The update everyone needs but the one my heart doesn’t want to make. Even though the AFD was able to put out the fire, there is a layer of sticky soot over everything. It’s in every nook and cranny
Everything has to be replaced. This will take months for us to do. Unfortunately, this Christmas is not going to work for us. We are hopeful for the first quarter of 2025! Please don’t forget about us, as we rebuild our dream. Thank you to all who have reached out, your support means the world to our Family!! We can be reached through social media and email at great_toy@msn.com our phones are going to be down for a while.

So no Christmas shopping this year at Unique Toys. I hate that because they were definitely on my list to get my granddaughter stuff every year. I know they hate it as much as we do. Let's make sure we go out and support them in 2025. They are going to need us as much as we will need them.
