The annual Friends of Fogelberg Concert which began in 2008 is a tribute to singer-song writer Dan Fogelberg who passed away from prostate cancer in 2007. The Friends of Fogelberg organization released information on a virtual concert to raise awareness of prostate cancer, instead of hosting an in-person concert due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The hour long televised production on Panhandle PBS September 17 at 7PM will feature performances from the 2019 live show, Friends of Fogelberg X - Dan Goes County, and will feature Doppler Dave Oliver, Richard Kibbey, a physician at Amarillo Urology Associates and Buddy Squyres, prostate cancer survivor and Fogelberg performer.

According to a news release, Amarillo musician Joe Ed Coffman, a longtime fan of Fogelberg’s music, started the benefit concert to create awareness and education about the disease. “Knowing these are trying times, we certainly appreciate your past and continued support because not unlike the virus, the battle against prostate cancer rages on,” Coffman said in the release.

Funds raised from the concert will benefit the Harrington Cancer and Health Foundation to help fund free prostate cancer screening.

The foundation will also host a free prostate screening from 9 a.m. to noon Sept. 26 at Amarillo Urology Associates, at 1900 Medi Park Drive. Facemasks will be required to participate and individuals are asked to not attend if they have a fever, sore throat or any other COVID-19 symptoms.
