In the past couple of years, I've really dug back into the remnants of my record collection from when I was younger. I also decided to start rebuilding it. High Fidelity in Amarillo came at just the right time.

The Not-New New Store On 6th Catering To Sound Addicts

There's something magical about music, period. How you consume music is a personal choice. For me, there's still nothing better than putting a record on and letting it play. It's become my hobby (obsession) of choice.

High Fidelity on 6th isn't necessarily new. Amarillo's funky little record store has existed inside of The Nat for quite some time.

Finally, they've been able to move into their own building right on 6th.

So What Is The Selection Like?

I'll be upfront and honest, I was a little wary about the possible selection. While it's nice to have a record store, selection is everything.

I finally decided to check it out, and I'm really, really, happy with my haul.

I couldn't believe this album hadn't already been scooped up by the time I arrived. If you've never seen this, you have to check it out.

Speaking of the Blues...I came across a few from another Blues legend from Texas; Johnny Winter.

This one is special because it's Johnny and his just-as-famous brother Edgar. You remember Edgar Winter for "Free Ride" and "Frankenstein."

I'm also a Country music fan. It probably has to do with how much I love the Blues. The two are heavily linked. So, I was beyond excited when I found these gems.

When I saw Don Williams, I had to pick it up. Not only do I just enjoy Don, but this record includes the classic, "Tulsa Time."

When it comes to Rock & Roll, I feel like Traffic is an often underappreciated band. This was the one I couldn't wait to get home and wrap my ears around. Also, this one highlights how creative the cover art could get.

Yeah, the jacket is cut oddly so it sticks out like a sore thumb when I have it on the shelf with its brothers and sisters.

New And Used Records, Plus Comics, CDs, Collectibles

The idea that I might be purchasing a used record has always been one that doesn't sit well with me. I don't know who owned the record before me, and I don't know if they took care of it.

I was shocked when I got home and dove into my haul. No skips. No blemishes. They played perfectly and sounded great.

Needless to say, they made me a believer.

If you haven't been down to 6th yet to check out High Fidelity, I highly recommend it. If for no other reason than just to go back to a simpler time when you spent time thumbing through milk crates of records at a local store looking for that something special.

Also, they've got t-shirts, collectibles, comics, and cds in stock.

My only complaint is that they didn't have any Joe Cocker when I stopped by, but I was told it would be on its way.
