It's been a crazy year for businesses in Amarillo. We saw some close with no warning. We also watched new ones open. The inevitable circle of life, taking place in front of our eyes.

The Planned Mariscos Expansion That Never Happened

There was a vacant building on Paramount that once housed El Bracero. Early this year the plan was to relocate a second location of Mariscos El Big Boy into it. This was before the restaurant had to change its name.

They went from being Mariscos El Big Boy to Mariscos El Victor. Their initial location is on Sixth. Then they wanted to expand. They were so excited for this new location that they went in and painted a mural on the outside of the building.

Amarillo has a ton of buildings with murals, so this addition just made sense. Until, due to the economy and various changes, they cancelled that second location.

New Tenant Arrives, Flavors of India Takes the Spot

The building didn't stay empty for too long. Next to move in was Flavors of India. They put up a sign but that mural remained. They could have simply painted over it with a dark coat and removed the mural.

That is not the route they decided to go. Recently they added their own flavor, no pun intended, to the restaurant. Flavors of India recently put up their own mural. They decided to go that route.

A Mural Strategy to Stand Out in a Crowded Area

They made sure to add the claim ‘Best Indian Food in Town.’" Since they joined a street with two other Indian food locations. Just on one stretch of Amarillo. Going from I40 and Paramount you will pass Flavors of India, then you will approach Indian Oven. Indian Oven is the original on this part of Amarillo.

Indian Restaurant Cluster on Paramount Blvd

If you still continue on Paramount and continue when it turns to Olsen you will also encounter Sai Indian Cuisine. We do not lack of choices in that area of Amarillo.

Flavors of India had to do something to stand out, and that mural has helped. It has given life to the restaurant since the signage up front is not that glorious. This definitely will help it stick out.

Another mural has been added to another Amarillo business, and we are all for it.
