The Amarillo Rumors are Back – Is Malcolm’s Reopening?

Amarillo is going through withdrawal. We really are. I know we are missing out on Malcolm's. They closed their doors back at the end of June. Since then we don't have that cute family-owned restaurant with those great jalapeno bits to enjoy anymore.

We didn't have that long list of ice cream dishes to choose from. We had a hole in our hearts since Malcolm's had closed. They have been a staple in our city for decades. So this one hurt.

Then the questions started to swirl around our city like it does. Different people noticed work being done in the location. Was it going to reopen? We have been wondering about that since August. It's one of those rumors we have been hoping was true.

Then there hasn't been a lot of talk about it since. Oh, but the questions resurfaced with some more answers. The new talk is that more work was being done. There has even been some answers as to who may be doing the work.

The talk is that the owners of Spotted Pony, which is next door to Malcolm's are the ones doing the work. The talk is that they are the ones that are working to reopen Malcolm's. That would be great.

Being next door they watched as Amarillo flocked after the closing was announced. Being next door they know the hole that Malcolm's closing has left in our city. Looking up info on the county appraisal sites it does show new ownership as of September.

So the work being done is new owners. All of the talk is that it is going to reopen as Malcolm's. We are going to keep an eye out on this story. I know many Amarillo residents who will be thrilled if this does turn out to be true.
