Amarillo embraced the Sod Poodles in their opening, championship winning season. By extension, many in Amarillo also embraced the Padres.

That could be changing. Enter the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Earlier today (12/9/2020) a press release was issued stating that the Arizona Diamondbacks had their eyes on the Sod Poodles. They officially offered an invitation to Amarillo to become their AA affiliate.

Sod Poodles President and General Manager Tony Ensor stated in a press release from the Sod Poodles that the announcement from Arizona highlights the fact that Amarillo and the Soddies are "among the very best communities and franchises in Minor League Baseball."

The statement also states that he is excited to review the invitation from the Arizona Diamondbacks with the ownership group, and discuss the future of baseball in Amarillo.

You have to admit, it's interesting to see happening in Amarillo.

There were a lot of people leading up to opening day at Hodgetown who swore this would be a colossal flop. According to the critics, the city as a whole wouldn't support a team.

However, we went our first season with several sold out games. We started showing up in video games. Celebrities started sporting Amarillo Sod Poodles merchandise.

It will be interesting to see what changes, if any, will be made if a deal is made with the Arizona Diamondbacks.
