Update: Recent Status of Amarillo’s Two Closed Restaurants
One of my favorite things about Amarillo is having people reach out to find out what is going on in our city. They ask the question. We do the research, which is sometimes just driving by or making a call or two. We like to get to the bottom of what is going on in our great city.
Last weekend I had one person reach out to me about the Denny's on Georgia. They were closed. The sign told us it was temporarily closed. The health department report went into more detail about the leaking roof.
In fact every time I drove by I made sure I looked over to see what was happening. There were cars there. People have been working inside trying to get that part cleaned up. OK, it has been fixed and they are back open.
The second restaurant I was asked about was the Chili's on I40 and Western. I would be the first to be crushed if they closed. My granddaughter loves Chili's and it's our go-to when they are in town. So I had to find out if they were really closed.
This is what I originally found out about both of those restaurants. Oh, but we have an update for Chili's as well. They are not closing. They were closed. It was temporary like the sign said.
I had an employee reach out to me with confirmation:
Why would you post chilis is closing too lol. It was just a plumbing issue and they had to come fix it. - John
To be fair I told him that I did not post that they were closing. I stated that they were closed on Sunday and I had no idea why. That sign really should have had more information and he agreed. He did tell me he was not the one who put the sign up.
I told him I would be crushed if they closed. That was our go-to. The students of Tascosa High School would be crushed too. I do know that to be true. I remember when my daughter was a student there how often she would go and how much we would go as a family.
So here is to the good news that the Chili's on I40 and Western is not closing. They just had an issue with their plumbing that needed to be fixed. It's fixed. The mystery has been solved. Here is to many, many more years of visits to Chili's.
