When businesses in Amarillo succeed we love to celebrate them. When they seem to take a hit we love to jump in and help. There are highs and lows when it comes to owning a local business in our city.

A local business doesn't have corporate behind them trying to help when things get tough. They are not there to jump in and help when things slow down. Most businesses, especially restaurants know that a slow down happens a few times a year.

Seasonal Slowdowns Hit Amarillo Restaurants

Typically, restaurants are slower in September. As the back to school shopping kicks in and those bills are due. Plus, with all the homework and school events filling our calendars, there’s less time to eat out.

The second big hit comes in January, when credit card bills from Christmas arrive. It is also when most people are vowing to eat healthy or save money. So again the slow down. Without having corporate support in the slower times it hurts some local businesses as they try to recover. They have to take matters into their own hands.

Wesley’s BBQ Announces Major Schedule Change

That is what happened recently with Wesley's BBQ, 6406 River Rd. They took to social media to let us know about how their hours are going to take a drastic hit:

I regret to inform you that after today Wesleys BBQ
will only be open on Fridays from 11-7!
So if u need your Wesley’s fix come see us on Fridays!
We enjoy our community and although this has been a hard year for dine in restaurants we refuse to close down all together like so many other restaurants have this year. However I cannot afford to pay a full time staff on the weekdays when we get slow and I’ve tried opening in the evenings for 6 months to compensate however not very many people showed up even after advertising it.

Catering Keeps the Business Alive

They refuse to shut their doors and are staying busy with their catering business.  For now, though, it doesn't make sense for them to open any more than Fridays.
That is bad news if you live in the area and count on them for a meal during the week. The good news though is that maybe this could change. For now this is what has to happen.
We will continue to cater and to take the food truck out but we are having to only open the restaurant on Fridays!
Please support us as much as u can! If it wasn’t for the amazing people of this community we wouldn’t be here at all!
And if Fridays are not busy enough to justify it we may have to close down all together and just become a catering BBQ restaurant but I happen to believe in this community and I’m hoping to see yall each week!
Thank you for your support and understanding!

Community Support Could Shape the Future

Another restaurant in the area is taking a hit, but they’re fighting back. They refuse to go down without a fight. Hopefully things turn around and the restaurant can open more. For now enjoy the food truck and the restaurant on Fridays.
