I know it is hard to get people to work. I also know that dumping trash may not be the most glamorous job. It's a tough job and probably a very thankless one. I know that when I hear the city trucks in my neighborhood I really am thankful.

You see in my neighborhood I live near I-40. That leaves the dumpster directly behind my house a dumping ground for just about everyone. There are times I go out to my alley and there is trash all over the place.

The dumpsters are beyond full. It's a nightmare. I leave trash bags on my back porch because I know there is absolutely nowhere to place them in any dumpster in my alley whatsoever.

So the city coming out and saying they have to go to one day a week to empty dumpsters I am already dreading the mess in my neighborhood. It's already bad and I am used to hearing them twice a week.

If our dumpsters are this full after just being emptied how in the heck are we going to be able to go to once a week? I understand there is a shortage of workers but this is not the answer.

According to the City of Amarillo in a recent press release:

Beginning Monday (July 18), residents with dumpster service will receive trash pickup service once a week. Residents with previous service on Mondays and Thursdays each week will be serviced on Monday or Tuesday. Residents with previous service on Tuesdays and Fridays will receive service on Thursday or Friday

There will not be a change if you have a trash can you bring out to the front of your home. Those cans will be empty. It's just these "horrible" dumpsters the city wants to get rid of anyway. I just feel like this is going to be a nightmare.

Here is how the shortage of employees plays out:

So according to this graphic, we need sixteen new employees before we can go back to two dumpster pick-ups a week. If you are looking for a job we beg you to go and apply HERE.

If you follow the City of Amarillo's Facebook page you know that this temporary new schedule has not made anyone happy. As of right now it has over six hundred comments and four hundred shares.

People are wanting to know if our fees are going to be lowered during our lack of service. Dream on.

Dumpsters will be overflowing and trash will be everywhere……… - Cody

I'd like my bill to be reduced please! - Michel

Those of us with dumpsters directly behind our property are responsible for cleaning up the crap people are dumping. Are we going to get fined because it is overflowing and being dumped on with furniture and tree limbs? - Suzanne

It’s hard for me to agree with this change. The dumpster at my house serves five homes. Normally, it is crammed full with two times a week pickup. - Gene

I understand everyone's frustration. I have a dumpster directly behind my home. During a normal week, there is way too much trash and garbage all over the alley. It should not be my responsibility to clean up the city's mess. I have my own job to do. I can't do theirs too so to say I am frustrated is an understatement.

I am dreading how bad the alley is going to start looking next week. I saw the suggestion that maybe the city can drop off extra dumpsters in our neighborhoods. That would be a start.
