The website SmartAsset recently did a study to determine which cities are the most and the least affected by housing cost burdens. This study has some great news for Amarillo.

To be housing cost burdened means that 30% of a person's income goes to housing costs. Severely burdened individuals spend roughly 50% on housing costs.

When it comes to Amarillo, we are actually the least severely cost of housing burdened. Only 4.85% of households in Amarillo pay 50% or more of their income on housing.

There's always a conversation taking place somewhere in town about how many people have been moving in. One of the reasons why, is the cost of housing.

Montgomery, Alabama came in second for the least severely burdened. They were followed by Lincoln, Nebraska; Overland Park, Kansas; and Wichita, Kansas.

The most severely burdened was no major surprise. LA came in first place, followed by Fort Lauderdale, New York City, Long Beach, and Yonkers, New York.

As news continues to be overwhelmingly negative for Amarillo regarding COVID-19, it's nice to have something positive in the public eye.

Nice to see us being recognized as number one at something, and it's actually a good thing this time.
