When the Amarillo Zoo vision started in 1955, it was simply a duck pond and then a few years later it added barnyard animals. Now the Amarillo Zoo is home to exotic animals of all kinds. Lions, Tigers and Bears, Oh My. And more.

August 5th-9th the Zoo is offering parents an opportunity to have their kids enroll in the Amarillo Zoo Keeper’s in Training Program. Kid’s ages 10-12 can find out if they have what it takes to a real Zoo Keeper during an exciting adventure packed week.

Kids will explore behind-the-scenes to learn what an Amarillo Zoo Keeper’s unique duties are. Campers will have a busy morning as they prepare animal meals and treats, diagnose an animal as they view animal x-rays, and even clean exhibits. Kids should leave their best clothes at home and come prepared to get down and dirty at the Zoo.

Monday adults admission is only 2 dollars and kids are 1 dollar, Tuesday through Sunday  adults are 4 dollars and kids are 2 dollars, kids 2 and under are free.

The Amarillo Zoo is open 7 days a week, 9:30am-5:00pm.
