Nobody really likes change. We get used to having people and places in our lives. We really count on them to be there when needed. With that being said we are also happy when someone gets to retire.

It makes us happy that they are able to do something like that but again we hate change. That is what Canyon is getting ready to have to deal with. If you have pets you know the name Lisa Cox.

If you have ever lost a pet or found one in Canyon you definitely know that name. Lisa has worked for Canyon's Animal Control for eighteen years. If you follow lost pets on Facebook or any Canyon group Lisa is the go-to. You will see her name brought up to come to scan a found pet for a microchip. I have seen many posts mentioning Lisa as an answer to any animal problem.

After eighteen years Lisa is going to be able to retire. That is sad news for Canyon because everyone in Canyon knows Lisa's name. She will be retiring on Friday. So just a few more days.

She is not going to go out without a celebration. The City of Canyon is going to make sure of that.

I feel there will be a pretty big turnout to wish Lisa well on Friday. I mean she has made many friends in the community. Lisa is going to miss the furry friends she met as well. Go out on Friday and celebrate Lisa.

Amarillo and Canyon Farmer's Markets

Amarillo and Canyon have some great community and farmers' markets.

They take place in the summer into early fall. It's an opportunity to find fresh produce, one-of-a-kind items, jams, jellies, bread, and more.

If you haven't had a chance to visit you should.

Canyon Farmers Market - Square in Canyon
Saturdays 8am-12pm

Amarillo Community Market - 1000 S. Polk St.
Saturdays 8am - 12:30pm

Golden Spread Farmers Market - 3701 Plains Blvd. Parking Lot
Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays from 7 am until sell out.
Early in the season of this market produce is scarce as the season moves on and crops are harvested, you'll see more and more of your favorite veggies.

The Abandoned School House Outside of Canyon, Texas

This was once the Jowell School. Built in 1901, the building was the cornerstone of the teeny tiny farming community of Jowell.

The building had been rebuilt and restored in the late '80s or 90s before vandals destroyed it in an act of arson. What remains of the Jowell School sits in a desolate part of rolling farmland between the small towns of Canyon and Happy, Texas.
