What Happened to Chop Chop Rice Co. Third Restaurant in Amarillo?
Things in Amarillo change all the time—sometimes a business returns or expands, and we eagerly wait. Then… sometimes it never happens.
The Sakura on Soncy was one that we had been looking forward to since the time we heard the building was bought, and it was coming back. Then recently, we got word that it was for sale again. Not the news we wanted to hear. It happens.

The business world in Amarillo can change, and it does. Sometimes we never find out what really happened.
I was recently asked about another business here in Amarillo. To be honest, I had forgotten that it was adding a third location. It has been a few years since there was any news. Now nothing.
Do you remember a couple of years ago when Chop Chop said that they were going to open up a store in the old Hastings on 45th with a drive-through? Can you find out what is happening with that? Is there still a lease on that east side? - Kristen
Chop Chop’s Third Location Announced in 2021
Back in 2021, Coldwell Bankers had a post about part of that old Hastings building being leased:
LEASED: Chop Chop has leased space at 4301 SW 45th. Lease negotiated by Justin Kite, CCIM.
We even heard from the general contractor who had started some work.
Local Interest and Questions Still Linger
It's been a few years, and we do not have a third Chop Chop Rice Co. in that location. Is it going to happen, or is that dream gone? I reached out to both Chop Chop and the general contractor to find out.
According to Steve Sims, the general contractor for the project:
No, that got stopped because of city zoning issues.

So that third location on 45th is a no-go. Don't worry, they do still have the two Chop Chops in Amarillo at 34th & Coulter and at Wolflin & Georgia St. Who knows that can always change, and a third one could always happen in the future.
