Fees for The Warford Activity Center in Amarillo Increases
My Facebook news feed blew up yesterday with news regarding a fee increase at Warford Activity Center. Needless to say, a lot of people aren't happy about it.
Here Are The Increases To Expect For The After-School Program
As of August 1, 2019, monthly fees for the after-school program will be $20 for members; $30 for non-members.
As of January 1, 2020, fees will increase to $85 for members; $95 for non-members.
As of August 1, 2020, fees will increase to $170 for members; $190 for non-members.
Qualified reduced fees (reduced or free-lunch) for members will increase to $35 as of January 1, 2020. Then, they will increase to $70 as of August 1, 2020.
Those fees for non-members will increase to $45 as of January 1, 2020. Then, they will increase to $90 as of August 1, 2020.
Outrage And Other Possible Changes
Comments on various Facebook pages ranged from disgust to outrage. Reports state that the "fee structure matches fees charged by other service providers."
The report does state that the council is open to looking at other ways of making up the costs associated with running the program, and may be able to make changes "before January."
