I’ve never been this sore in my life. I’ve also never felt better. This is the magic of what happens when you work-out at Nick’s Fight Club.

I’ve been through a really rough few years, which I won’t really get into except to say…life spiraled out of control at one point. I decided last year I wanted to join a boxing gym with the intent of stepping into the squared circle and learning the sweet science. Then, my goal was to take on a fight.

Nick's Fight Club came to the rescue. After a couple of meetings, instead of taking classes I would be participating in the amateur boxing training offered by NFC.

This week I stuck just to training, which Nick’s offers to anyone. The sessions were an hour long, twice a week. We went over fundamentals, fundamentals, and more fundamentals. We worked legs, arms, and core...dear God we worked on core.

My background in athletics is nothing to write home about. I moved to Amarillo standing 6’0 and weighing 119lbs. I’ve never been fit. I took a little bit of karate as a kid, and took a clumsy try at football, baseball, basketball, and wrestling. Outside of pushups and a little bit of jogging, my activity level is non-existent.

Session one, we just “woke up” my muscles. We took things a little slow, but I could still feel it the next day, especially in my legs. Session two, we stepped things up…and I’m sitting here two days later and I am sore in places I didn’t know existed.

My plan this week is to take in at least one of the classes. They are two separate and unique experiences, training and classes. I’ll compare them next so you can decide what would be best for you.

If you are wanting to push yourself, to challenge yourself, I can’t recommend Nick’s Fight Club enough. They have two locations, and everyone on staff has been incredibly nice. Just don’t expect an easy time. They will push you. You will sweat. You will feel sore in places you didn't know existed. But if you’re wanting a challenge, I doubt you’d find a tougher one.
