Need Solar Eclipse Glasses? Here’s Where To Buy In Amarillo.
It's always one of the coolest events when you get to see it, but it isn't always spectacular. This year is going to be different though.
What am I talking about? The solar eclipse that we're going to bear witness to on Saturday, October 14!
A lot of times, the solar eclipse covers less than half the sun, so it doesn't really bear a ton of excitement. However, this year it's expected to cover a stunning 85% of the sun, which means you'll really only see a faint ring of the sun as it gets covered up.
The eclipse is slated to start in Amarillo around 10:13 am, that'll be the point when you'll start to see the coverage. If you don't want to sit and watch it as it continues to cover the sun, then you'll want to check it out around 11:43 am as that's the point it'll reach maximum coverage.
Now, one very important point I need to make here. You do NOT want to look up in the sky without some kind of protection on your eyes. I know it's tempting to just look up, but the damage the sun can cause your eyes can be irreversible in some cases. That's not worth seeing the eclipse.
They have special eclipse glasses you can get your hands on to help protect your eyes, and at least one local Amarillo business is giving you a place to snag them.
Broome Optical has 2,500 pairs of the eclipse sunglasses, and they're only $1 a piece. The best part aside from protecting your eyes during the eclipse? All proceeds are going to benefit the Downtown Women's Center.
They're located at 3408 Olsen Blvd. and are open from 7 am-6 pm Monday through Friday, and they'll open the doors on Saturday at 8 am if you need those last minute glasses.
