New Golden Mesa Casino Officially Opens In the Oklahoma Panhandle
The Golden Mesa Casino is now officially open. You'll find this little oasis just a couple of miles southwest of Guymon. Two-and-a-half miles, to be exact.
The grand opening took place today. The facility is 40,000 square feet and along with gaming, has a restaurant, gift shop, and a bar.
Golden Mesa has 600 electronic games, and has six table games. Four of those table games are Blackjack. The other two are for Ultimate Texas Hold 'em.
The casino is open 24/7. The bar is open from 10:30a.m. until 2:00a.m. The restaurant is open from 11a.m. until 9p.m. on Sundays, 11a.m. to 11p.m. on Saturdays, and 11a.m. until 10p.m. Monday through Thursday, according to a press release.
If there's one thing I miss about living in Oklahoma, it would be going to the casino once-in-a-while to play Blackjack and Texas Hold 'em. I would go with several friends and we would spend hours playing while listening to live music being performed on a nearby stage, usually taking up a whole table for ourselves.
It honestly was a blast, and was a once-a-month tradition I miss.
I understand some of the reservations Texans have regarding casinos, especially considering how problematic a gambling addiction can be. It would be nice to not have to leave the state, though, for a few hours of entertainment.
According to the press release, the Golden Mesa Casino is expected to have an economic impact of "..of nearly $34 million." while bringing in "...175 jobs with approximately $3.7 million in annual payroll..."
