Only in Texas: Why Did the Rattlesnake Cross the Amarillo Road?
It's not unusual to see wildlife in the streets of Amarillo. I mean that has been proven time and time again. We have seen the likes of deer in our city. We even witnessed a kangaroo hopping along I40.
So why should we think anything of the fact there was a rattlesnake making it's way across Bell Street? Where was it coming from? Where was it trying to go? Did it make it to it's destination?
So many questions but the fact remains that there was a rattlesnake on our Amarillo roads just trying to get somewhere.
I tried to do some of my own detective work. I could see some apartments in the background, so I went on Google Maps to see if I could pinpoint exactly where this was happening on Bell Street. There are a lot of different apartments on Bell. I could also tell it was near a business on the other side so that excluded a few of the apartment complexes.
I finally gave up. I know not very detective like but I already was using the street view feature and travelling up and down Bell Street and that wasn't getting me the answer I needed. So I finally reached out to the gentleman who posted the video.
OK, that was much easier. Phillip had the answers I was looking for:
It was at Bell and Hillside. Right in front of the IQ car wash.
So why did the snake cross the road? That is what I wanted to initially know. It turns out that Phillip had the answer. Just not the answer I was hoping for:
Unfortunately he did not make it across.
Well looking at the video this rattlesnake was literally in the middle of Bell. He was not even in a turning lane. Oh, and who is looking out for a snake? I know most people don't want to see a rattlesnake near their home. I get it. I just think about it getting smashed in the middle of Bell Street.
Phillip did make a very valid point:
Yeah it's probably for the best due to kids living in the apartments.
Which is true. So I guess we will never really know why the rattlesnake was trying to cross the road on Bell Street. He never made it to his final destination. RIP Bell Street Rattlesnake.
