I love being known as the Foodie Queen here at the stations. I get to find out about all of the latest and greatest food spots in our city. I get invited out to try some of the best foods I have ever had.

This past weekend was no different. A new Barbeque Food Truck finally opened up in Amarillo. It has been a long time coming. They were hoping to get to open early in September but with inspections and all of the other work, it was delayed.

The wait is over and this past weekend they opened in their permanent location in the Exchange Food Park - 2801 Duniven Circle.

So I had to go by on opening day. On Friday I had to give one of the newest barbeque places a try. This is Texas after all and we take our barbeque seriously.

Review of Class 1 Barbeque in Amarillo

We got there before opening and there was already a pretty long line. The word was out that Class 1 Barbeque was here and they were opening for business. Charles Carr, owner, and Veteran was hurriedly getting everything ready for open. Charles opened up Class 1 Barbeque with his wife Maria, a match made in heaven.

The menu sign was hung. The windows were open and this new business was ready to feed the hungry people of Amarillo. It was great seeing everyone just standing around talking. Charles was as nice as he could be. You could tell he had a lot of support from the twenty years he worked at Pantex.

When we got to the front of the line Charles asked what we wanted to try. I told him to pick what I should try. With a smile Charles said the ribs and brisket. Then he added that we couldn't leave without the banana pudding as well. He was speaking my language.

I couldn't wait to get home and give it a try. The smell filling up my car was enough to hint at the goodness I was about to experience. The brisket was melt in your mouth delicious. The ribs fell off the bone and had a hint of sweetness to the rub. There was no sauce needed.

I don't know how Charles did it but there was not a drop left in my box of goodies. Then it was on to the banana pudding. This is the only dessert on the menu for now with promises of more to come. Really Charles doesn't need anymore. I love some banana pudding and this stuff was so creamy and delicious that is all he needs on the menu.

I asked Carla, who was with me to send me a review of the food after she got home to try it:

Good BBQ can stand on its own, it doesn't need sauce or anything.  The brisket and ribs had a good smoke ring. Neither was overwhelmed with smoke or seasonings. They had the perfect amount of each. The ribs were tender and moist with good flavor.  The brisket was cooked perfectly. It had a good pull to it. The flat and point were very moist, just the right amount of fat, and oh so good. Can't wait to try some of the other items.  The banana pudding was so good and not sweet.
I think Charles has found success here in Amarillo if opening day is any indication.
Class 1 Barbque can be found in the Exchange Food Park - 2801 Duniven Cir, from 11 am - 7 pm or sell out. Get there early and get there often.
