It was one of the biggest news stories closing out 2020; a Covid-19 vaccine. That vaccine is now available, and is being rolled out to specific groups in Amarillo.
On the City of Amarillo's website for Covid-19 information, they state that they are giving the vaccine to individuals who fall under Phase 1A and Phase 1B of the Texas plan for distribution.
Phase 1A was the phase for front-line healthcare workers. It also included the staff and residents of long term care facilities.
Phase 1B is individuals who are 65 or over. It also includes people who are 18 and older who have at least one chronic medical condition that puts them at increased risk of severe illness from Covid-19.
You can find out more by following this link.
The best piece of information on the website is in regards to actually going to get your vaccine. You can get it at the Amarillo Civic Center Complex, and the website states there is no charge for the vaccine.
I know several people who have already had the vaccine. None of them have had any unwanted sided effects.
If you fit into either Phase 1A or Phase 1B, you can go to the Civic Center Complex to get your vaccination all this week. Vaccines will be available from 9 AM - 5 PM, Monday through Friday. Saturday, they will be available from 9 AM until 2 PM.
The website does mention that the hours could change based on availability of the vaccine. You're encouraged to check the website often to see if there are any changes. You can follow this link to check dates and times before you go.
