The Mysterious Voice of Big Tex, Robert “Bob” Boykin, Dead At 73

If you've ever gone to the State Fair Of Texas, or know anything about it at all, you are familiar with Big Tex. You may not, however, be familiar the man behind the voice of Big Tex.

Here's a video in case Big Tex has never welcomed you to the fair.

According to news reports, Bob Boykin was that voice that would bellow "howdy" to people attending the fair. He joined the fair in 2012.

His identity was only made known recently. He died on January 23 of this year. He was a veteran, and he worked designing military aircraft.

The fair takes the secret of who voices Big Tex seriously. There's even been someone fired after their identity was made known.

No word yet on when they're going to open applications for a new voice of Big Tex.
