These 5 Items Are Found In Nearly Every Texas Home
The decorations and things found in people's homes have a tendency to reflect where they live, where they were raised, and just the general interests of that person or family. While every home will be different, you will find certain things in everyone's home depending on where they reside.
In Texas, we have quite a few things that would be found in homes here, but maybe not anywhere else. There's a high likelihood that at least a couple of these items can be found in your household, whether you grew up here, or have only lived here for a couple of years.
Now, I'm not saying ALL these items can be found in every home in Texas, and some cities will vary on the items. For example, some things found in Amarillo homes may not be found in Dallas homes. For the most part, though, I'll bet you will find a couple of these things in any home here.
BOOTS
It's a staple, right? Without a doubt, any home you go into will have a pair of cowboy boots. Sometimes they're visible, sometimes they're tucked away in a closet. The funny thing is, they aren't always boots that get worn.
Some use a pair of boots simply as decoration. If you have a country or cowboy theme going on in a room, cowboy boots tend to complete any of those looks in Texas. I had to think about my house because neither my wife nor I own a pair of cowboy boots, but I bet if I looked hard enough, I'd find a pair one of my kids owned when they were younger.
FISHING POLES
Here in Amarillo, we have a lot of different lakes that people love to go fishing at. I see it often at the ballfields in Canyon when we head out there for practice. It's not even a lake really, just kind of a little fishing hole. Regardless, I see people at it all the time.
There is no doubt in my mind that in at least 70% of homes in Amarillo, you'll find fishing poles (and the related equipment) somewhere in the house being kept safe for that next opportunity to land a fish.
BUG REPELLENT
If you've lived in Texas for even just a year, you KNOW that this is an absolute must-have. If you try going out any time in the spring or summer without it, there's a very good chance you're going back to your house with at least five bug bites that will annoy you for days to come.
Now, it's probably not going to be prominently displayed. If you ask anyone in Texas for bug spray though, they'll tell you exactly where you can find it, and you'll probably find different grades to choose from as well.
SOMETHING FOOTBALL RELATED
Texas is all about three things. Family, God, and football. Simple as that. It doesn't matter if it's pro football, college football, or high school football. People thrive on the sport and will attend any game, anywhere, any time.
If you go into a Texas home and don't see a piece of football memorabilia in it, they probably cannot be trusted. Most of the time, this paraphernalia will be on prominent display so whoever walks in knows who the homeowner pulls for. Not your team? Get ready for a two-hour argument.
DR. PEPPER
It's the official, unofficial drink of Texas. When you go to someone's home and ask if they have something to drink, they'll most likely offer up either water or Dr. Pepper. Now, should you ask for a soda that ISN'T Dr. Pepper, you had better be asking for Big Red. Anything different and it's possible you are run out of that person's home almost immediately.
