Wait To Celebrate. Amarillo May Have Red Light Cameras Until 2022
The saga of red light cameras in Yellow City continues. Many were excited when the Governor signed the ban into law. You may want to wait to celebrate.
There is language included in the ban that allows cities to keep their contract with providers if they are unable to cancel. It looks like Amarillo will be holding on to those cameras for a little while longer.
According to reports, the city has a contract with a red light camera provider until 2022. According to one report, it would cost the city roughly $500,000 to cancel the contract.
So while some cities in Texas will be saying "so long" and "good riddance" to their red light cameras, it looks like we still have about 3 years left with ours...at the most.
The city has mentioned they will be looking at possibly getting out of the contract as we get closer to 2022.
