In the 90's in was a web page.  In the 2000's it was a Facebook page.  In 2017, it's an app.

Xcel Energy is the latest company to roll out an app.  They say it provides an extension of their online tools and provides more options for customers to manage their accounts.

The home page of the app displays the amount owed and the due date, with a link to pay the current bill electronically or view past bills, usage and payments. The app allows customers to set up payment methods, choose the time of month to be billed and enroll in auto pay or Averaged Monthly Payment.

There is also an outage map and other features.

What isn't mentioned is how much more accessible you'll be to Xcel when they want to reach you.  As if the second past due notice and the disconnection notice on the door weren't enough, app users that are past due can look forward to being prompted via push notification that the lights are about to go out.
