Amarillo’s New Buc-ee’s Is Now On The Map….Kinda

When it comes to a new place coming to Amarillo, there are three stages of acceptance. It's kind of like the stages of grief but with the end goal being a new place to shop or eat.

We go through these stages together as a community.

1. Surprise & Suspicion:

We find out about said new place. In this case Buc-ee's. Nobody believed we were really getting one. When we got confirmation we went bananas. We really did.

We are so surprised that the new place is really coming. It's a long wait until they finally open. We do many drive-bys and keep an eye on progress. We're suspicious that it will never happen or plans will fall through.

We watch the building go up. Buc-ee's is certainly going up quickly here in Amarillo. There is nothing wrong with that.

2. Now Hiring & Coming Soon:

Then we also start seeing some advertisements for Buc-ee's. We start getting billboards about the new locations. Things are really getting real. The rest of the world is starting to take notice. It's actually official.

Then there is the hiring process. Ok, they pay well. People are excited about that. Unfortunately in Amarillo that has come in stages too. So far only management-type folks were being hired. It is going to happen for the rest of us and we will be excited when it does.

3. On The Map

Then there comes the appearance of our favorite place on our GPS maps. There was a rumor that we had our Buc-ees officially out there for everyone to see. So I tested it out. First I checked Google Maps. That is my go-to. Nope, not there. Huge letdown.

Then I remembered there are other maps out there. I checked Waze. It was also a no-go. So I was starting to feel defeated until I remembered that on my iPhone Apple gave us their own version of GPS with their Apple Maps.

Apple for the win.

They were the first to make it a reality for anyone searching for a Buc-ees location. We are still waiting for the other maps to catch up but we are on our way.

It won't be long before we are walking through those doors looking for those beaver nuggets.

At least we will know how to get there.
