The Hidden Charm of Small Towns on the Amarillo-Dallas Drive
Over the years, I have made many trips from Amarillo to Dallas. I know I am not alone in knowing that long stretch of road. I always consider the drive two separate trips. There is a start that takes us on 287.
That first half is us in a constant state of stopping and going. The roads of Texas are quite interesting. On the way to Dallas, we pass through several small towns. The second half, once we hit Wichita Falls, is just a non-stop journey to Dallas. It's always where my stress level rises.

Why Drivers Still Flinch at Estelline
We know that you come to a pretty fast slowdown with each and every city. The one that still gets my attention is Estelline. Over the years, we have learned to slow down and not go a mile over the speed limit in Estelline.
Even though the stories are that the sheriff, who was always waiting for us, always willing to hand out a ticket, has retired, we still flinch and slow down when we see the Estelline sign.
Tips for Enjoying the Slow Part of the Trip
There is so much to see in the small towns on the way to Dallas that it would be a shame if you don't slow down just a bit and enjoy the view. I mean you are slowing down anyway for each town, you might as well take it all in.
