We love to complain about road construction here in Amarillo don't we? I mean there's enough of it going on all over the city that it feels like all we run into is construction.

There are cones everywhere, heavy machinery digging, and headaches all over the place. We always question when is it going to be done? Why aren't they even doing anything here? All valid questions if you ask me.

For example, there's a project currently going on over on Soncy that seemingly has come to a halt. No explanation, no reason, it just stopped. The project on I-27 that feels like it's been going on forever feels like it's going absolutely nowhere.

I think I might have figured something out with all these. It seems there are SO MANY different projects that they can't get them completed and move on to the next. No, this isn't just me speculating.

If you go to the TXDOT website, you can actually look up all the different construction projects going on in all the different counties. I decided to pull up a report that is limited to the panhandle area, and I was blown away at the sheer number of projects going on here.

The more staggering thing to me was the amount of projects that weren't completed. There are quite a few that are showing 99.9% complete, but those are the quick jobs. There are so many different projects that are living between the 35-65% finished range that it makes me wonder if they're going to be able to complete those projects anytime soon.

Don't take my word for it, go look for yourself here. We may be living in a construction world for quite awhile longer.
