Threats Against AISD Schools Under Control? Sounds Like It.
It seems to be one of the biggest fears of any parent right now. Sending their kids to school.
I can totally understand. I've got two kids in school right now, and the constant looming threat of an active shooter on campus definitely lends pause to want them to go.
I've seen and heard a couple of different ways people have viewed this. One is, "we can't teach our kids to live in fear" and I agree with that sentiment. The other I've heard a lot is, "I'm going to home-school my kids, it's just too dangerous to send them" and I can 100% respect that stance.
We started the school season with an immediate scare in the Amarillo area as a couple of kids thought they saw someone in the school with a gun. They ended up reporting it and it turned out no one had a weapon. That's the good news.
Now, we've had someone making threats on numerous schools in the area, and it has started to get us parents a little bit squirrely.
Here's some good news on those threats that have been made. APD is fully aware of them, and on top of it, they've got a suspect. They've even made contact with the suspect.
They don't have the suspect currently in custody, but they have also assured everyone that the suspect is in “a safe place where the threats cannot be acted upon.”
I have no idea what this "safe place" is, but if APD is on it, then I'm breathing a little bit easier at night.
