We have made it to the second month in Amarillo without a major restaurant closing. Well, that is all about to change. There has been pretty quiet news about places to eat, which is both good and bad. At the end of the day, no news is good news.

That is all about to change. Yesterday, I received a text telling me about a restaurant in Amarillo that was closing. This would be the first restaurant closing of the year. The first soon-to-be-empty building will be on Coulter Street.

It's Official: The First Restaurant Closing in 2025

As soon as I heard the news I picked up the phone and made a call to confirm. One of their managers answered the phone so I asked if the rumor I heard was true. Right away she confirmed that yes, Rib Crib at 5050 Coulter Street will be closing at the end of the week.

I asked if there was any reason given for the closing and she said that no, they were just told that they would close on the 16th. She also said that they would close sooner if they ran out of food. Of course, with Valentine's Day being on Friday that is a good possibility.

The staff has known since the end of last week so they have been given some warning. They are also taking care of their staff to help them make their next step. At least the owners have been fair. This was not a case where employees found out on the day of closing. So major props to the owners.

It's sad that we are losing a business. Amarillo is Losing its First Restaurant of 2025 and it is Rib Crib. Stop by as soon as you can before they sell out and have to close earlier.
