As it’ Gets Colder -Amarillo Where is the Perfect Tamale Hiding?
As we are getting further and further into the year it is inevitable. The weather is going to start getting colder. Tamales are the perfect cold-weather food, right? I used to have a tamale connection at my former workplace. I don't have that anymore and that hurts. Someone you know that you can buy directly from.
That really is the way to go. I mean that used to be my go-to. Nothing is better than buying tamales straight out of someone's trunk. That is the joke. Is it really a joke, though? No, those are authentic tamales the ones that make life worth living. Really they are that good.
If you don't have a go-to family that makes tamales when you need them what can you do? I know I see people posting in Facebook groups from time. I don't know how I feel about that if I don't know the person. I haven't felt that brave yet. Maybe someday I will throw all abandonment to the wind and take the chance.
So, if you are braver than I am you can find plenty of good tamales on Facebook in different food groups. Heck, I bet most of these tamale makers will have people who will go all out and say how good they are. A recommendation may make me feel a bit better. One day I won't mind.
Where Can You Get Great Tamales in Amarillo?
Here are just a few suggestions, some I have tried and some are on my must-try list:
- Gibby's Food Truck: You can still have the feel of getting them out of someone's trunk with it being a food truck but with some great tamales.
- La Supre Meat Market: They have tamales daily and you can choose pork, jalapeno, and cheese.
- Rosa's Cafe: They really do have good tamales. They are not just for Taco Tuesday.
- Braceros
- Tacos Garcia
- Diana's Tamales: When the word tamales are even in the title
I know I am missing several places that have tamales. I need to find some great tamales that haven't been mentioned. I mean to me nothing screams Christmas Eve more than a great tamale dinner. We just need a go-to.
